UITP decided to join the #CohesionAlliance, a grass-roots movement open to anyone who believes that EU cohesion policy must continue to be a pillar of the EU’s future. By joining the Alliance, UITP advocates for strong cohesion policy and funding for public transport for both the Cohesion Funds and the European Regional Development Fund in the context next Multiannual Financial Framework.
The Alliance was created in the context of preparation for the next Multiannual Financial Framework to make cohesion policy stronger, more effective, visible and available for every region in the European Union in the EU budget after 2020. It has been launched by a cooperation between the leading European associations of cities and regions and the European Committee of the Regions.
Recognising cohesion policy has a clear added value in creating jobs, sustainable growth and modern infrastructure, overcoming structural barriers, boosting human capital and improving the quality of life, the Alliance makes 9 recommendations for a strong EU cohesion policy beyond 2020.
The #CohesionAlliance is open to any national, regional and local governments, SMEs, NGOs, schools, universities and cultural organisations.
