JASPERS, in cooperation with the European Commission and UITP, is organising a workshop on Bus fleet renewal through deployment of clean and efficient vehicles on 26 and 27 June 2018 at the Committee of the Regions in Brussels. The workshop should support understanding of policy intentions, technological options, decision making criteria and financial and operational experience. It will look at the possibilities and requirements of funding from European Structural and Investment Funds (ESI) and also complementary funding and financing options from other funds, bank lending and financial instruments.
Many local transport authorities in Europe are in need of replacing much faster ageing bus units within their fleets or of introducing bus transport to serve a growing urban population. The purpose is to meet current standards, increase efficiency and passenger comfort and reduce transport related emissions. EU funds – mainly from European Structural and Investment Funds (ESI) but also from Horizon 2020 and potentially from the Connected Europe Facility (CEF) – contribute to modernise the urban and regional bus fleets in the EU and therefore to improve public transport quality and efficiency.
Bus fleet renewal and/or extension through EU funding represent an important opportunity to improve the quality, efficiency and image of public transport as a whole, its market share, the environment in the area served and the integration into a wider smart local development strategy.
All interested operators, responsible authorities at local, regional and national level, manufacturers and NGOs are invited to attend the workshop and to contribute to the development of planning and procurement approaches in all ESI Funds benefitting countries.
Participation to this workshop is free of charge, but registration is compulsory and can be done at the following web-form until Wednesday 20 June at the latest: http://www.smartsurvey.co.uk/s/CleanBusesJune18/
